Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Parish Church of the Assumption for its beautiful Gothic architecture and impressive collection of historical artworks, particularly the Kelheim marble altar and late-Gothic paintings. Its location at the city entrance and its rich history are also frequently highlighted as reasons for a visit.

"This impressive Gothic church was built from around 1420 and extended in the 19th century in a Neo-Gothic style. Its three-aisled basilica layout features a finely crafted choir completed circa 1460, with later additions finalizing the structure by 1513.

Inside, visitors are treated to notable artworks: a high altar carved from local Kelheim marble by Johann Obermeier, dating to the mid-19th century, flanked by late-Gothic panel paintings—including a lifelike Pietà from the 1400s—and sculptures from around 1500.

Dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, the church celebrates its patronal feast annually on August 15th, a tradition highlighted by blessings (often of herbs) during this time."

"The church was built in the mid-15th century in the neo-Gothic style. From 1877 to 1886 the parish church was extended and a new tower was added, which also completely renovated its interior. Of particular interest are the carved Kelheim marble altar (mid-19th century), the masterpiece of the Kelheim sculptor Johann Meier on the upper nave and two old panel paintings in the presbytery, which date from the late 15th century. The left side altar depicts the Pietà, a carving from the 15th century. Also worth mentioning is the figure of St. Johannes in the baptistery from around 1500 and the stone statue of the Virgin Mary above the south portal from around 1450."
