Reviews Summary

Visitors find the NS Documentation Center EL-DE Haus to be a profoundly impactful and essential historical site, particularly for its preserved Gestapo cells and detailed exhibits on Nazi persecution. While the atmosphere is somber and the content heavy, most agree it's a crucial place for remembrance and education. Some note the lack of air conditioning and the need for a translation app or audio guide for full comprehension.

"This was interesting If you like history. They had some English translation plaques. But get the audio clips too. They are an extra 2 euros (2025).

The actually cells downstairs are worth seeing. I am glad they are preserving it.

The staff was not helpful and shooed us out at 5:45 pm. The front desk said it closed at 6 pm, but it does not, 5:45 pm we were outside and doors closed."

"Although a bit difficult to find, this former Gestapo Headquarters and now a museum is well worth a visit. It's a somber reminder of the horrors of interrogation and torture during World War 2. Allow at least 1 hour to tour the multi-level museum and don't forget the basement where you can find the actual cells the prisoners were held. Even lower down you will find the bunker where staff hid during bombings.

Reception will provide you with a multi-language audio device you can use throughout the museum. Exhibits are numbered. You simply key-in the exhibit number and the story begins."

"If you’re interested in history, especially World War II… I highly recommend visiting the EL-DE Haus. It’s absolutely worth the visit. The entrance ticket costs €4.50, and there’s an audio guide available for €2, which I found very helpful. It took me about 3.5 hours to go through the entire museum while listening to all the audio segments. The atmosphere is heavy and somber, reflecting the dark period it represents. One of the most powerful parts of the museum is the basement, where the Gestapo held and tortured prisoners. It’s a deeply disturbing space not for the faint of heart but something that must be seen to truly understand the horrors of that time. It’s heartbreaking to realize how much of this history still repeats in the world today."
