What Travellers Say

Reviews Summary

ICE Station Limburg Süd is a functional, albeit basic, transit point on the high-speed rail network, noted for its exclusive ICE service. However, travelers frequently criticize its severe lack of amenities, including shops, cafes, and often non-operational toilets, as well as its dilapidated condition and industrial surroundings. Reddit

"Awful station. One ticket machine for the whole station, no on-site shop or coffee shop, not even a coffee dispenser. The only toilet is a metal cabin on the forecourt, which is "Außer Betrieb" and looks like it's been so for months or years. The whole station is in a terrible state of repair and looks shabby and miserable, as well as being located in an industrial wilderness, meaning there aren't even any useful amenities in the area. The only facility is a half-filled vending machine. Avoid being stuck here at all costs."

Emma Harding

"Limburg Süd is the only station in Germany that is served solely by Intercity-Express (ICE) services. It is located in the Eschhöfer Feld ("Eschhofen field") in the district of Eschhofen at the 110.5 kilometre point of the Cologne–Frankfurt high-speed railway.

The construction of the station began with a groundbreaking ceremony on 24 September 2001. The station building was completed on 12 July 2002. 9000 sq m of earth was excavated for the station building and 2,000 cubic metres of concrete or reinforced concrete were poured.

On 1 August 2002, the station was opened for operations along with the new line. More than 2,000 people, including the premier of Hesse, Roland Koch, watched the arrival of the first ICE 3, which arrived six minutes ahead of schedule in Limburg in the early morning of 1 August 2002.

In the course of preliminary archaeological explorations more than fifty archaeological monuments were discovered in the area of the future station. The discoveries, which were up to 7,000 years old, showed that significant trade had been carried out for centuries in the area of today's station."
