La Frauenkirche. Détruite en 1945, restée durant cinquante ans en ruines et après une dizaine d’années de reconstruction, pierre après pierre, jusqu’à sa réouverture le 30 octobre 2005, 60 ans après sa ruine. #frauenkirchedresden⛪️🇩🇪 #frauenkirche #dresden

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Frauenkirche's stunning Gothic architecture, both inside and out, and its powerful story of reconstruction. The legendary 'Devil's Footprint' and the breathtaking tower views are frequently highlighted as memorable features. While some find the interior grand and peaceful, others note the crowds during peak times.

"Frauenkirche is impossible to miss; the twin onion-domed towers are basically the city’s calling card, looming above the skyline since their completion in 1488. Up close, the Late Gothic brickwork feels fortress-like, but step inside and it shifts: the soaring white interior, with its slender columns and ribbed vaults, feels almost weightless. Light filters through stained glass that miraculously survived the bombing of World War II, giving the space a quiet dignity.

What surprised me most, though, wasn’t the grandeur but the details: the “Devil’s Footprint” in the floor, linked to a centuries-old legend, and the striking tomb of Emperor Ludwig IV (who died in 1347), guarded by bronze knights. It’s these little touches that make the cathedral more than just an architectural icon, it’s a place layered with stories, power, and myth. Standing there, you feel both the scale of Bavarian history and the human quirks that keep it alive."

"--Personal Experience--
The place was magical. As any church it had tinted windows with beautiful drawings and stories in those tinted windows. The big cross was also massive and elegant in person. The church also had a magnificent church with many big pipes distributed around the church. I wish I could hear its sound.

--Legend--
I have also heard the legend about the Frauenkirche. It goes that the devil himself left a footprint right at the church entrance. When the church was almost finished, the devil wandered by and got angry that yet another place had been built in God’s name. He walked into the entrance hall and noticed that the inside seemed to have no windows at all. Thinking the builder had made a huge mistake, he burst out laughing. He jumped up in delight and, when he landed, he left his footprint behind. But as soon as he stepped further inside, he realized the truth: the windows were there all along, just hidden by the big pillars and the old Gothic altar. Furious at being tricked, he tried to destroy the church by turning into a raging storm—but he couldn’t do it. People still say you can feel his angry wind whipping through the streets around the Frauenkirche today."

"Beautiful church with interesting legend about its construction. Beautiful inside and out. Nice place to find a quiet place to sit and rest in the middle of hectic historical center of Munich. One can spend 5 or 25 minutes here."
