What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Rees Rhine Promenade for its beautiful, well-maintained riverside walk and historical insights. The separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians are appreciated, though the lack of snack and drink options is a common drawback. Some also wish for more direct water access. Despite minor criticisms, it's considered a worthwhile experience for its scenic beauty and peaceful atmosphere.
"The Rhine promenade in Rees is quite nice.
It's a nice long walk along the Rhine obviously, with various things to see along the way.
There's historical signs everywhere to let you know what everything is as well.
It's well maintained and nice and clean. There's even updated seating and lighting as well.
In addition, there are separate paths for pedestrians and bicyclists to make sure everyone is happy.
The only reason it's not 5 stars in my opinion is that there isn't really any snack/drink options along the way. It would be nice to have a hot coffee or hot chocolate or tea during the winter, and maybe ice cream or something similar in the summer months.
Additionally, it would be nice if the weeds to the water were all removed, so that people could literally walk right up to the water, like a small beach.
However, if you are in the area, i would definitely walk the length of the promenade. It's worth it, even as is."

"It can get pretty crowded on the weekends especially when the weather is nice. Bicyclist must walk on Sundays and are not allowed to ride. In the summer months there is a little ferry boat taking people and bicycles (no cars) across the Rhine. On the other side is a cute little Cafe in a farmhouse' backyard. They serve coffee and home made cake."

"Rees is a lovely little market 0town on the river Rhine near the Dutch boarder. Cycling is wonderful as there are plenty of very scenic bike routes; there is even a little bike ferry that takes you across the Rhine from where there are many places to visit. Xanten an old Roman settlement, Kleve, where Anna of Cleve came from and the famous Swan Castle (Schwanenburg). You can visit lakes to swim, good restaurants, pizza places, coffee and ice cream places. Plenty of good hotels or private accommodation. Well worth a visit, best bring or hire a bike"
