What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Lessinghaus an interesting place to learn about the Enlightenment thinker Lessing and his significant works, particularly 'Nathan the Wise.' The inclusion of his personal life and tragedies adds a poignant touch. While some wished for more faithful restoration, the minimalist design is appreciated for focusing on the exhibits.
"A great exhibition about Lessing and his ideas. However, I would have liked to see the house restored more faithfully to its original state, something like the Schiller House in Weimar."

"An interesting place to learn about Lessing and his works. The price is included in the ticket for the Herzog August Library."
Daniel G.
"The museum's interesting, yet minimalist design.
I never would have thought that Lessing's fate would touch me so much. He spent his last years here, apparently happily married to Eva, the widow of König. Then she died of puerperal fever after the birth of their eighth child, who would have been Lessing's first. The child died within a few hours, Eva after a few days.
The horrific forceps are on display in her death chamber.
Incidentally, it wasn't until 1831 that Justus Liebig discovered chloroform and its anesthetic effect in Giessen. What poor Eva had to endure.
I would also like to thank the nice gentleman at the reception desk."
