What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Evangelical Church Xanten for its unique architectural features like the rectangular bell tower and its fascinating historical crypt. The church's role as a community hub, with an adjacent World Shop and youth home, is also a positive aspect. While some find the interior simple, its historical significance and the story of its rebuilding resonate with many.
"The Protestant church in Xanten stands, so to speak, in the shadow of Xanten Cathedral.
The Protestant church was built in 1648.
The Catholic cathedral had its founders as early as 1263...
But both churches suffered the same fate.
They were destroyed in a bomb attack in February 1945.
But both churches were rebuilt after the war.
The Protestant church has a rectangular bell tower, which you don't see that often.
According to information, under the church there is a huge crypt, like a cemetery, where a few hundred years of citizens of the city of Xanten were buried.
This is also a special feature of this church...
Everything that has to do with the Protestant church is right next to the church.
The community office, a youth home, and the world shop, where you can buy beautiful and good things at fair prices...
There are tables and chairs in front of the youth home, and food or drink cards are laid out on the tables. Unfortunately, we have never been to the Protestant church before, we have never been able to look at it from the inside. The service is always on Sundays at 10:00 a.m., we are not guests in Xanten that early, we come from Duisburg...
We have already seen the world shop from the inside, otherwise we were only able to look at everything from the outside....
The Protestant church is certainly just as worth seeing as the Xanten Cathedral.
For me, churches are just for praying...
The interior of most churches is always beautiful and interesting, but the actual purpose of a church is always intended for one and the same thing...
The church and the cathedral in Xanten are worth seeing..."

"A beautiful little Protestant church with a fascinating history. Even though the interior is quite simple, it's worth a visit during the opening hours on church days."
