What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Akosombo Dam for its impressive engineering and the stunning views of Lake Volta. However, many note that the process of obtaining tickets and guides at the separate township office can be inconvenient and time-consuming, with some disappointment over restricted access to certain areas like the turbine rooms.
"Very nice and serene community. We had to drive all the way to the entrance of the dam only to be told we need to go to the Akosombo township to purchase a ticket and also get a tour guide from there as well. You need to get there to see the sort of inconvenience this can be.
The fee was GHC5 for nationals and GHC10 for foreigners which was fairly ok. We had to wait for like an hour and half before we were able to make the payment and also get a tour guide.
We were told an interesting story behind the construction of the dam. I was disappointed we weren’t allowed to go to the engine I wish management will consider that as part of the tour."

"Great tour of the Asokombo Dam. You have to stop at the tour office a couple of kilometers before and get an offical guide. Otherwise you will not be allowed to enter. The views of the lake volta and volta river are amazing. The tour is a bit restrictive in terms of walking around. They do take security very serious. Makes sense! I recommend anyone to see this accomplishment of Ghana."

"Magnificent architectural art of work located in akossombo, it’s been a pretty disappointment to learn that we could not take pictures nor video from the dam itself and we had to go Al the way to dodi world to have a glimpse of such a nice place, once at Dodi , you could see how great the human kind is for having set such a great way of containing water at one place"
