Reviews Summary

Visitors often praise Aegina Town for its authentic charm, picturesque waterfront, and delicious local pistachios. The island offers a relaxed atmosphere and a glimpse into traditional Greek island life, making it a popular day trip from Athens. Some find the island's transport options a bit limited for extensive exploration without a car, and certain areas can feel quiet outside of peak season.

"Lovely island. If you’re willing to explore you will need a car. Otherwise walking distance from the port are nice areas to eat / shop / walk by the beach"

Loujayne Alashhab

"A beautiful island with a unique atmosphere and many attractions. It's a shame I couldn't stay longer than a day."

Wojtek Budziłło

"Aegina is a beautiful and easily accessible island, just a 1-hour ferry ride from Piraeus (about €25 round trip). You can reach Piraeus conveniently by metro, making it an easy day trip from Athens.

We visited in March when it wasn’t crowded. It wasn’t quite warm enough for a beach day—we swam for about 5 minutes before the cold drove us out. We only saw one older woman swimming, wearing a wetsuit for the cold water.

Renting a scooter is highly recommended. For around €25, we got a 50cc scooter and could explore the whole island easily—getting from one side to the other takes just 25–30 minutes.

While Aegina has beaches, they’re mostly small and not really the big sandy type. It’s probably not the best island for a beach holiday, especially if it gets crowded in summer. But as a first-time visitor to Greek islands, I found the natural beauty and historical landmarks—like the Temple of Aphaia and the Holy Church of St. Nectarios—truly stunning. The view from the Temple of Aphaia is incredible.

Aegina might not be the ultimate beach destination, but for a quick and easy trip from Athens with rich history and natural charm, it’s absolutely worth it."
