What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Aria Spring Zas Trail for its breathtaking summit views and the rewarding nature of the hike. The opportunity to see local wildlife and enjoy the natural beauty of Naxos is a major draw. However, some find the steady climb challenging, and the summer heat requires significant preparation with water and early starts.
"Parking is on the sides of the road. Great starting point for a 3hr hike (up and down)"
Trevor Valenti
"We did a loop starting from the parking lot at the entrance to Filoti because we came by quad bike. It's possible to take the bus from Chora to Filoti town center.
We took hike #2 (marked in red) in the opposite direction to the directions to start with the most challenging part. We followed the road to Aria Spring, then Zas Caves (which was closed), then Mount Zeus (these sections are in the shade in the morning, which is very pleasant), then descended on the other side and arrived in the town near The Old Cinema restaurant. On this side, the trail is easier, with flat sections, short sections on the road, and also sections with stones. Along the way, we encountered a few people hiking in the opposite direction, as well as goats, birds of prey, and lizards. At the top of Mount Zeus, we had an incredible view at an altitude of 1,001 meters over the bay, the island of Paros, the plain, the town of Filoti... At the top, we were able to enjoy a strong, cool breeze that refreshed us greatly.
Given the summer heat, I recommend leaving early, between 7 and 8 a.m. at the latest, and taking plenty of water (2-3 liters per person). The hike is doable in sneakers, but hiking boots will be more comfortable for you.
Personally, it took us less than 4 hours to complete the 9 km hike, as we took a leisurely stroll, taking photo opportunities, and simply pausing to admire and appreciate the magnificent scenery around us.
You can also park at the bottom of Aria Spring and make a round trip to Mount Zeus. But we found it more enjoyable to do a loop and enjoy the superb scenery."

"A 2-hour, well-marked hike.
It climbs steadily throughout (444m elevation gain). The path is very stable. It's very beautiful at the finish, with birds of prey. Goats will keep you company along the trail."
