What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Museum of Ancient Eleutherna to be a modern and well-curated space, particularly praised for its integration with the vast archaeological site. The temporary 'Picasso in Crete' exhibition was a highlight for many. However, some reviewers noted that the museum's permanent collection felt limited, and signage at the archaeological site could be improved.
"Unfortunately, we have seen only the necropolis part, but it was amazing. As many artefacts are in the museum 1km away, it is good to see the museum first.
Also there is good documentation on site, as usual in Greece.
Very nice place!"

"Bad experience at the Eleutherna Archeological Museum. They have only a few pieces of items exposed. Explanation only in english. Then we tried to find the outside but there is almost no indication of where to go. So we found some ancient ruins but as you can see in the pictures below it is like they don't maintain it.
What it seems to me is that they are happy to take tourist money but not really keen to highlight their heritage."
Nicolas B.
"The museum is modern and it won't take too long to go through all exhibits. However, during our visit, there were temporary exhibits from Italy and Cyprus amongst the permanent ones from Eleutherna which was confusing and took away from fully appreciating and connecting the finds to the archaeological site we visited earlier in the day. I hope the curators consider this and set it up in a better way."
