Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Geraki Castle for its spectacular views, well-preserved Byzantine ruins, and the beauty of its ancient churches with frescoes. The free admission and the helpfulness of the site's guardian are frequently highlighted as positive aspects. Some note that the site is not open every day and requires checking in advance, and that certain paths can be challenging for those not wearing appropriate footwear.

"We had a great visit to the castle. The lady at the visitor centre was very helpful, showed us a short introductory video about the history of the site, gave us a map and off we went. I had emailed them a few days prior to our visit to check on opening times and days and had received a very prompt reply. For some reason Google will not allow me to put the email address here but if you look through previous posts you will find it on photos of the signage at the castle entrance. They don’t open every day.

We had the whole site to ourselves and enjoyed every moment exploring the three churches that are open to the public as we meandered up the hill to the remains of the castle. Fabulous views all the way. It’s a shame more people don’t visit. It’s well worth it."

"A spectacular large site spread over a mountain. The remains have an interesting history and are decently preserved. The views of the valley from the top are breathtaking.
At the entrance there is a welcome place with toilets.
The paths to the castle are easy and paved with large rocks. The paths to the outside churches are rocky and challenging. For the latter, proper boots would be better than trainers. The walk to the outside churches takes about 15/20 minutes. The walk to the castle takes about 10.
Free entrance!"

Laura Porro

"Fantastic ruins of the castle and old town, with several churches complete with 12th century wall paintings. A steep climb but worth a visit for the spectacular views alone."
