I enjoyed a chat with two friendly shop owners and the cafes and restaurants at the promenade. Also, parking was for free.
However, during my visit, the playground was in a relatively bad shape, the public toilet was only partially functional and Europe's southernmost island was not cleared for visitors by the public authorities. That was a bit disappointing. Still enjoyed my trip to Ierapetra, though 🌞"

"Average beach in a large tourist town. Beech front is crowded with restaurants and shops selling tatty souvenirs, very pushy shop keepers won't leave you alone if you look into the shops, even after saying we were just looking several times they came back to push a sale several times."

"So if there is only one beach to go to while you visit Crete, this isn't it. No way. In fact, I don't understand anybody holidaying in Ierapetra. It just isn't attractive and in no way reflects the beauty of Crete. Having said that, some good shops and supermarkets but then move on swiftly."
