"This museum will take you through a very long journey in a very short time.
It begins with the origins of humanity, as it offers an impressive display of Paleolithic tools and weapons.
The Neolithic collection, though less impressive than those that can be seen in many another Greek museum, remains respectable.
The bronze age collection presents an impressive assortment of bronze tools, weaponry and cookware.
What is really unique is the presentation of the requests from the pious to the priesthood of the oracle of Dodoni. It feels like listening to people of today expressing their anxieties, their agonies, their hopes and their fears, seeking answers from the divine as they cannot find the strength to find them on their own.

"Download the free audio guide (Proxitour) and bring headphones. Not sure why they don't advertise it, but it gives you so much more depth to what you're seeing. I got there with 75 min before they closed, so I had to be selective on what I chose to listen to. I imagine it would take 2 hours if you listened to everything and went at a leisurely pace? It's a small museum, but worth going to. I really enjoyed the lead requests for the oracles to tell the visitors what to do.
Signs are in English and Greek."

"The Archaeological Museum of Ioannina is a quiet but truly fascinating stop for anyone interested in the rich history of Epirus. Located in the heart of the city, in the central park near the lake and the university, it offers a beautifully organized journey through time from prehistoric settlements to the classical and Hellenistic periods.
The building itself is modernist and spacious, with exhibits laid out in a clear and accessible way. What really stands out is the quality of the displays: ancient tools, jewelry, inscriptions, pottery, and a number of rare funerary steles. Each item is accompanied by helpful descriptions in both Greek and English, making it easy for international visitors to follow along.
One of the highlights is the section on Dodona, the famous ancient oracle of Zeus, including fragments of lead tablets inscribed with real questions from ancient worshippers. It gives a very human glimpse into everyday hopes and concerns from thousands of years ago.
The museum is not very large, but it's thoughtfully curated and peaceful - perfect for a one - to two - hour visit. The staff were welcoming and helpful,
