What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lalaria Beach is undeniably beautiful with its unique pebbles and turquoise waters, but many visitors find it overcrowded due to numerous boat tours arriving simultaneously. While some appreciate its undeveloped nature, others are disappointed by the lack of amenities and the challenging wave conditions. The strong smell of gasoline from boats has also been noted as a detractor.
"Not worth the hype at all! We took a day trip by boat and when we arrived at around half past 10, until then the beach looked empty but with us came 6 other boats so forget about privacy or some space there. It was too crowded, there is no kiosk so you should bring refreshments with you and the little shadow there is is quickly occupied by all the people. The water was nice colour but I've seen nicer for sure. There are better beach at Skiathos and this is just a tourist trap."

"I was so excited to go to this beach because of it's reputation but was actually a bit disappointed. It looks so beautiful with it's turquoise water but I couldn't see a single thing with a snorkel. Think it's because so many boats dock up there but literally the water was so cloudy and also there was such big waves it wasn't very relaxing to swim. I liked that there was no bar or sun beds I wish more beaches were like this in Skiathos. But ultimately didn't have the best time. We came as part of the Mamma Mia Cruise so we only got to be there for an hour anyways which was sad because I would have wanted to explore the famous archway"

"The place is undoubtedly very beautiful but it's overcrowded at times & there no shadow in the morning. There are also too many boats. I suggest you come by private boat on the early afternoon. I'd give it 5 stars if it wasn't because it's dangerous. It seems so calm then waves come from nowhere and they're so powerful, not very high but very strong. Also there is no one to save you. Long story short, I almost drowned at shore, dragged on the pebbles back & forth. A girl saved my life. If you read this, thank you, you're an angel."

Navigating the Waters: Boat Access and Tours
When choosing a tour, consider the time of day and the duration of the stop. Some reviews mention that arriving too late can mean sharing the beach with many other boats, diminishing the sense of seclusion. If you're looking for a more relaxed visit, inquire about tours that depart earlier or later, or those that focus on fewer, more exclusive stops. Remember to check what's included in the tour price, as some may offer refreshments or snorkeling gear, while others are more basic transport.
The Pebble Paradox: Comfort and Scenery
Despite the pebble terrain, the natural beauty of Lalaria is undeniable. The absence of commercial facilities like sunbeds or beach bars adds to its unspoiled charm, a feature appreciated by some visitors who prefer a more natural setting. However, this also means you need to come prepared with all your essentials, including plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection, as there are no amenities available on the beach. The dramatic cliffs that back the beach offer some natural shade, but it's often limited and can be quickly occupied, so planning your visit during less intense sun hours is advisable.
Safety and Serenity: Navigating the Waves
Despite the potential for strong waves, the allure of Lalaria's clear waters and unique rock formations continues to draw visitors. The famous archway, in particular, is a highlight for many, offering a unique swimming experience. For those seeking a more tranquil visit, arriving on a private boat in the early afternoon is suggested by some Redditors to potentially find calmer waters and fewer people. Ultimately, a balance of appreciating its raw beauty and respecting the power of the sea is key to a safe and enjoyable visit.
