What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often find the Iakovateios Library and Museum a thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating experience, largely due to the passionate and informative guides who make the exhibits come alive. However, some express deep disappointment over the building's neglected state and visible earthquake damage, lamenting the lack of care for such a culturally significant institution.
"We had a thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating time there. Dimitrios gave an explanation of all the exhibits. We couldn't have asked for a better time. Well recommended"
David Noonan
"Absolutely horrible! I went expecting to see an old building with a beautiful collection, but what I found was an abandoned structure. This building hasn't been taken care of since the 2015 earthquake, and it looks like it's ready to fall. I cringe when thinking about what harm the books of the library have suffered. I am a proud Kefalonian and it breaks my heart seeing this.
Shame on the people who can do something about this and haven't. Shame on the government for not taking action. Total disrespect to the people of Lixouri!"
Kosta Vitoratos
"Its been closed down since the earthquake in 2014
You can visit....but theres nothing really there to see apart from the building and the spooky garden. Its a real shame"
