I found these slightly eerie wax infant votives on the floor of the monastery of Agios Ioannis Lambadistis, one of ten remarkable painted Byzantine churches in Cyprus' Troodos region that have been awarded UNESCO status. From its humble exterior, you'd never guess at the gorgeous colourful paintings inside the monastery - it's like being inside a jewellery box! Cyprus, February 2023 #clickfor_une...

Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the breathtaking panoramic views of Naxos town and the coastline, especially during sunset, and appreciate the historical significance of the UNESCO-listed monastery complex. However, some guests have reported unwelcoming and aggressive encounters with a nun, which detracted from their experience.

"Today I went to see this monastery expecting a calming religious experience, instead I met a mean nasty nun, yelling and being so rude that it really put a bad spin on Orthodoxy. The nun behaved more like in a pub than in a church: clearly no spirit of god in her. Nice view though."

Ibsen Boy

"Stunning views of Naxos town, however, my brother got yelled at “No Photo” very aggressively when taking a picture outside of the Monastery near the grave yard by a very angry and unfriendly nun, who was in the middle of a phone call. Then got told “that’s not the Monastery, here is the Monastery” … ???? …. When we got invited in, we were then angrily told to wait a few times. At this point we decided to turn around and walk away. If you wish to be yelled at and traumatised by an angry nun then this is your place to be. Have never been yelled at and made to feel so unwelcome like this visiting a Catholic church."

Jasmine Vine

"WHAT A VIEW!!! You can see all of Naxos town and a lot of the coast from this breathtaking place (accessible by car and Google Maps!). We did not have our cellular turned on and we should have - because we would have seen that you can only go into the monastery from 9a-12p / 6p-8p."
