"The wall of Verga is located approximately 7 km. east of the city of Kalamata, at the location of Almyros, in the present-day settlement of Verga. It is a tambourine that was hastily built in 1826 by the Maniates to intercept Ibrahim. The tambourine was named "Verga" because it was long and narrow and in some places straight.
There was an older wall at the site, traces of which have not survived. It is most likely that that fortification had also been built by the Maniates in previous centuries.
The toponym "Verga" was created after the battle."

"The wall of Verga is located approximately 7 km from the city of Kalamata, at the location of Almyros. "Verga" was the metaphorical name given to the linear fort tambourine that was built on the initiative and expense of the Mani people to guard the border gate to Kalamata. In the same area, there was a similar wall that had been built for the same purpose, traces of which have not survived. It extends along the entire length of the Almyros ravine, from the sea to a steep and impassable point on the mountain near the village of Kato Selitsa. It is a winding rampart with abundant loopholes. Its height reached 2 m. and was reinforced with two fortified towers: west towards the sea with a square tower and east towards the mountain with a round bastion with cannon positions. The wall, which is still half-ruined today, was built to repel Ibrahim's army and prevent the surrender of Mani. The battle that took place at this point on June 26 and 27, 1826 is very important as it is the first time that Ibrahim's army suffered losses."
