What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Archilochus Cave a thrilling adventure with stunning views, though the challenging, unmarked trail requires good footwear and a head for heights. While the cave itself is modest, the journey and the panoramic scenery are the main draws for those seeking an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience.
"We found the trail just to the north of the cave as mentioned in previous reviews. We took it down, following the makeshift trail markers (small stacks of rocks). In some parts the trail was pretty steep and stressful in my opinion, and I am an avid hiker, and was wearing hiking boots (I’m also not great with heights though). We climbed right up into the cave. I would highly recommend a good pair of running shoes or hiking boots/shoes. Not recommended for someone who is not great with heights."

"There’s no actual path going down — the only path is on top. I found the rock stacks after walking north and started descending from there. The soil is unstable, so you have to be careful and go down slowly, often sitting or holding onto firm rocks or plants. Once you reach the bottom rocks, walk left until you find the cave.
Going up is faster — just keep walking past the cave. You’ll need to climb a few steps, but if you follow the right path, you’ll be up in 5 minutes."

"Thrilling early morning trip down to the Cave of Archilochos. The route was clear to the clifftop and then the descent was a bit of a scramble. I was fine with this in my running shoes but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea! The approach down to the cave is helpfully marked by little cairns. Great adventure."
