What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning scenery and the iconic Mamma Mia connection, calling it a must-visit for fans. The climb up the steps to the chapel is rewarding, offering breathtaking views. However, be prepared for narrow, winding roads to get there and significant crowds, especially later in the day. The actual chapel interior is smaller than depicted in the film.
"Very beautiful place to visit! We got there by car on a narrow and winding road. There are few parking spaces there and people leave their car on the road. You can find there also a very small beach, a snack bar and a shop with cosmetics."

"We enjoyed our visit. Arrived around 2:30 to miss the crowds. Only a few people around. Steps up to the church were good but in the heat it makes sense to take a hat and a small bottle of water. The interior of the church itself is not the one in the film as it’s way too small. The views up there are fantastic and don’t miss a dip in the sea after walking down. Take a detour by the taverna and climb down more stairs to a lovely small bay. A few sunbeds but not many. Great views and crystal clear water. Downside to all this is the drive down the narrow windy road to get to the mamma Mia attraction."

"It was great seeing this sight because I'm a huge mamma Mia fan. I would just say that it is super busy and crowded. The stairs are very narrow so you have to wait to let people pass (or some people with no awareness just push through haha). The stairs are steep and a lot in the hot weather. The top is nice and a good spot for photos but you more stay up there to have a rest before going back down. Note that the chapel is not actually the Mamma Mia chapel either. I wouldn't do it again but I wouldn't necessarily say to avoid it either, glad I did it. Maybe go when it's not the first week of the summer holidays haha"

The Journey to Kastri Cape
Travelers often describe the drive as an adventure in itself, with stunning coastal views unfolding along the way. It's advisable to have a reliable GPS or map, as some sections can be less clearly marked. The final ascent to the chapel involves climbing a series of steps carved into the rock, which can be steep, especially in the heat.
Experiencing the Mamma Mia Magic
While the exterior and the steps are the main draw, it's worth noting that the interior of the actual chapel is quite small and not as grand as depicted in the film. However, the spiritual ambiance and the sheer beauty of the location more than compensate. After descending, many visitors head to the small, secluded beach at the base of the cliff for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters. The beach offers a tranquil escape and a chance to soak in the stunning scenery from a different perspective.
Practical Tips for Your Visit
Comfort is paramount. Wear comfortable shoes as you'll be climbing numerous steps. The Greek sun can be intense, so bring plenty of water, wear a hat, and apply sunscreen liberally. There's a small snack bar and shop nearby for refreshments, but it's wise to carry your own water. Remember to be respectful of the chapel as it is a place of worship. The combination of the scenic drive, the iconic steps, and the beautiful sea views makes this a memorable stop on any Skopelos itinerary.
