What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking beauty of the Oia sunset and the delicious seafood in Ammoudi Bay. Catamaran cruises are highlighted as a top experience, offering great value and stunning views. However, the immense crowds at sunset can detract from the experience for some, and popular dining spots require advance booking.
"We joined Sunset Oia for a Luxury Catamaran Day Trip around the caldera and it was one of our favorite experiences in Santorini.
Getting there was easy — after tendering ashore, we rode the cable car up to Fira and met our transfer right on time. (Tip: Grab coffee and pastries at Svoronos Bakery next door while you wait!)
The check-in process at the marina was impressively organized — guests are grouped by color-coded tours, and the staff were professional, friendly, and efficient. The catamaran was spotless, the crew engaging, and the itinerary covered all the highlights: Red Beach, White Beach, and the volcanic hot springs.
The onboard meal was fresh and plentiful — grilled skewers, Greek salad, dolmadakia, and local wine flowing freely. The mix of scenery, swimming, and relaxation made for the perfect Santorini day.
Truly a first-class experience with a team that knows how to blend hospitality and precision."

"Beautiful catamaran, friendly crew! We had the best time and the lunch that was served was magnificent! We would love to take another trip! The swim spots were so unique and the captain positioned the boat for a most amazing sunset! Loved every minute of our trip!"

"I cannot recommend Sunset Oia Cruises enough — this was the highlight of my trip to Santorini! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (POV of a Solo female traveller.)
Pickup was seamless, with a comfortable, air-conditioned van and wide seats (even at 300 lbs, I fit perfectly). Our driver was safe and professional. We did the morning tour, which I highly recommend over sunset — vehicle and pedestrian traffic for sunset was horrendous as we were leaving. All communication beforehand was prompt and kind, as well as easily accommodating.
The boat was spacious and clean, with three swim stops and an absolutely delicious buffet lunch — fresh, high-quality, and way more than enough food for everyone! (Souvlaki of chicken/pork/veggies; dolmas; tzatki/greek salad without fillers like lettuce; pita) Drinks like water, soft drinks, and white wine are included but beer is €4 and cocktails are extra. They only accept cash.
> One small suggestion: ginger ale would be a great addition to the drink menu, especially since ginger helps calm seasick stomachs.
The crew worked hard, but Fotini was truly exceptional. She was constantly working while other employees took breaks or sat on their phones; and she handled even the most absurd and entitled guest behavior (“Can you calm the waves? Can you turn off the wind?”) with grace and professionalism. She was not only proactive but a natural leader — solving problems before they even arose.
If I still owned my company, I would immediately hire Fotini — even if it meant paying for her visa sponsorship, flights, and accommodations, to move to Canada. Her work ethic and dedication are priceless. Companies spend huge amounts of money trying to train and build employees like her, but with Fotini, these qualities are simply who she is. Sunset Oia is very lucky to have her, and they should do everything they can to keep her. If tips are shared, she’s the one who truly earned them.
Advice for future guests:
-Reapply sunscreen after every swim — many people didn’t and ended the day painfully sunburned.
-Bring aloe vera, extra towels, a waterproof phone pouch, and a portable charger.
-In case you get seasick, bring medication with you. I didn’t think I’d need it, but I really wish I had brought it.
Incredible value, unforgettable experience, and a crew that truly cares — especially Fotini. 🌅"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Look for tours that offer morning departures, as they tend to be less crowded than sunset tours. Ensure you pack plenty of sun protection, snacks, and entertainment for the little ones. The open spaces on a catamaran provide room for kids to move around, making it a more relaxed experience than navigating crowded village streets.
💰 Budget Travelers
Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October) when accommodation and flight prices are lower. For a budget-friendly cruise experience, look for group tours that might offer more competitive pricing. Packing your own snacks and water can also help save money, especially during longer excursions.
💖 Couples & Romance
Consider staying at a hotel with a private plunge pool or caldera view for an even more special experience. Strolling through the charming, narrow streets of Oia hand-in-hand as the day ends creates magical memories.

The Oia Sunset Experience: Reality vs. Expectation
For those seeking a more comfortable and less crowded sunset experience, consider dining at one of the restaurants in Ammoudi Bay. These establishments offer stunning views directly from your table, often with delicious seafood. However, booking these popular spots well in advance is crucial, as they are highly sought after. Another unique perspective is to experience the sunset from a luxury catamaran cruise. This allows you to witness the sky's transformation from the water, often including stops at volcanic hot springs and beautiful beaches, making it a truly memorable and less crowded alternative.
Ultimately, while the Oia sunset is a must-see, managing expectations and planning ahead are key to a positive experience. Whether you brave the crowds for the iconic village view, opt for a seaside dinner, or sail into the sunset, Santorini offers multiple ways to witness this breathtaking natural phenomenon.
Culinary Delights of Ammoudi Bay
Dining in Ammoudi Bay offers a unique experience where you can savor your meal with the gentle sound of waves and the stunning backdrop of the caldera. It's an ideal spot for a romantic dinner or a memorable meal with friends and family. While the focus is on seafood, many tavernas also offer other Greek specialties, ensuring there's something for everyone. Remember that these restaurants are incredibly popular, especially for sunset viewings, so making reservations well in advance is highly recommended to secure a table with the best vantage point.
Beyond the main restaurants, the journey down to Ammoudi Bay itself is an experience. You can walk down the approximately 300 steps from Oia, enjoying the scenic descent, or opt for a taxi. Be prepared for the climb back up, which can be quite a workout, but the culinary rewards at the bottom are well worth the effort.

Many cruises are timed to coincide with the sunset, providing a magical backdrop as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant colors.
Travelers often emphasize the incredible value these cruises offer, combining sightseeing, swimming, dining, and a spectacular sunset into one unforgettable day. Tips for maximizing the experience include reapplying sunscreen frequently, bringing a waterproof phone pouch, and considering seasickness medication if you're prone to motion sickness. Booking in advance is advisable, especially for sunset tours, to ensure your spot on these highly sought-after excursions.
