What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Marble Beach Porto Vathy is celebrated for its stunning, unique marble sand and incredibly clear turquoise waters, offering a picturesque setting. However, visitors should be prepared for a dusty approach road, potential crowds, and a minimum spend requirement for amenities. Some find the steep water depth and the beach's popularity detract from its charm.
"It is totally worth coming here. The road is a bit dusty and with rocks but once you are here you forget it all. It is also very affordable thinking you get some food and drinks included in the price of the sun beds. The parking is free though you need to come early in the morning to get a place in the shadow, both for parking and sun beds. It was a plus there were trees so we could stay under the trees.
The girl taking the orders is really nice and friendly and the food is delicious, especially the burger. It was really good value for the money and it had a lot of things in it. The coffee could be improved though. The frappe could have more milk in it and the warm coffee could be more tasty.
The water is really nice, a deep blue as you can see in photos. There were some things in it, such as leaves or pine leaves so they could work a bit in cleaning it.
Other than that you need to come and check it out by yourself."

"Place is picturesque with clean blue water and marble sand. You need to do minimum consumption 50€ for 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella. Sea is clean and nice for swim. Staff is friendly and food is good. If you are looking for something different you need to visit this place. Much bigger sea side compared to Saliara beach which is 700m away."

"We usually do not seek this kind of "party-crowded-beaches". But when you expect a beach packed with people, playing music and party Caribbean-like atmosphere you will get it here.
The road is dusty-dusty and the car will be ready for some carwash 😉. Expect to drive the last 4km at 20 km/h. We have chosen the Vathy beach - since it has larger free area where we could have our beach tent. (Arrived at 10am) Also there is this interesting "industrial paradise" feeling from the nearby quarry and there are platforms floating in the bay from which you can jump.
The water is clear, the beach is made of small snow-white marble stones which do not get hot even at noon. We spent 80€ for lunch (4 people) - so nothing out of line compared to other places. The staff was very friendly.
We have spent days at different beaches where we had our privacy, here we went in with party-expectation, so we were not disappointed."

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Young Children
If you're traveling with older children who are confident swimmers, they might enjoy the clear waters and the unique environment. However, for families prioritizing shallow, calm waters for toddlers, other beaches on Thassos might be a better fit.
💰 Budget Travelers
Alternatively, explore nearby beaches like Vathy Beach, which is close by and may offer more free space or different pricing structures. Renting an ATV instead of a car might also be a more economical transport option.

The Marble Phenomenon
The visual impact of this marble sand is striking. Even on a hot day, the marble pebbles tend to stay cooler than regular sand, offering a more comfortable surface underfoot. The contrast between the dazzling white beach and the deep blue of the Aegean Sea is a photographer's dream.
While the marble is beautiful, it also contributes to the beach's characteristics. The fine marble particles mean the seabed can drop off quite steeply, making it less ideal for very young children or those who are not confident swimmers.
Navigating the Journey and Arrival
Due to its popularity, arriving early is crucial. Visitors strongly advise reaching the beach in the morning to secure not only a parking spot but also one of the coveted shaded sunbeds. The beach can get very crowded, and prime locations are snapped up quickly.
While the journey might be a bit rough, the reward is a unique beach experience. The effort to reach Porto Vathy is often deemed worthwhile once you see the stunning marble shores and vibrant waters.
Understanding Sunbeds and Costs
This minimum spend policy means that while you might not pay directly for the sunbeds, you are expected to consume a certain amount. It's advisable to clarify the exact minimum spend and what it includes upon arrival to avoid any misunderstandings. Some visitors have reported being overcharged, so keeping track of orders and receipts is a good practice.
For those looking for a more budget-friendly experience or who prefer to bring their own setup, finding space might be challenging in the main organized areas. However, some sections of the beach may offer more free space, though amenities will be limited.
