"Near Mega Spilaion is another historic monastery. Agia Lavra monastery, built around 961 after Christ.. again centuries old monastery.. up in the mountains .. near beautiful kalavryta village. During the greek revolution, it was burned by the Turks.. definitely worth a visit , road is good until the monastery.. fresh air up in the mountains ..."

"It is hard to believe that in this peaceful and quiet place the seeds of the Greek War of Independence were sown about 200 years ago. There, in 18.3.1821, the local rebels raised the flag of the Greek Revolution War and for this reason this impressive monastery of Agia Lavra, has such a great importance in the history of Greece.
The monastery is open to the public and it is located in the heart of the mountains, 4 km west of Kalavryta.
It has a small beautiful museum inside and the whole site is very inspiring, and strongly recommended!
Don't miss also the Mega Spilaio Monastery located 10km north-east to Kalavryta!"
