What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hikers praise Mount Qua Qua for its challenging yet rewarding trek, offering spectacular panoramic views of Grenada's lush landscape and coastline. While the muddy and slippery conditions, along with razor grass, require preparation, the opportunity to see wildlife and experience the raw beauty of the rainforest makes it a highly recommended adventure for those seeking an active exploration of the island.
"We trekked to mount Qua Qua mid-October 2024, on a humid and sunny day.
The start of the trek is Grand Étang lake, with parking spots.
It took us 1h10 min to reach the top with great views left (sea away) and right (grand étang lake) when fog dissipated. The trek is of moderate difficulty as many places are slippery and muddy. No guide needed as pretty much one single track although some tracks (who seemed abandoned) are leaving on the left side as we go up.
The total time was 2h40 min.
A GPS map and photos are attached.
Typically a walk to do with your family if all of you are a bit fit to sustain steep and mud."

"It’s tough hike because of mud. Slippery path. We had rain on our ascend. Beautiful vegetation and no people. Make sure to wear long pants regardless of the weather-lots of razor grass along the hike path which will cut you and leave unpleasant sensation. We saw a snake - cute and not poisonous at the lake picnic area. No other disturbing critters or insects. Had 100% deet repellent on us so nothing bothered us, but I didn’t notice many blood sucking insects. Beautiful views at the top!"

"It’s a really nice hiking trail, we went during dry season however it was muddy and in some places slippery, so just be prepared for that. We were also lucky to see the monkeys which was cool."

The experience can be enhanced by using a GPS map or a reliable navigation app, as cell service can be inconsistent in the interior of the island. The combination of mud, steepness, and occasional fog can make the hike demanding, but the effort is widely considered worthwhile for the stunning views.
Pro Tip: Even during dry seasons, the trail can retain moisture, so always be prepared for muddy conditions. Consider bringing a small towel to wipe down your shoes and gear after the hike.

While less common, there's also a possibility of spotting snakes, though they are typically non-poisonous and tend to avoid hikers. The lush rainforest vegetation itself is a marvel, with diverse plant life creating a vibrant and immersive natural environment.
Photography Tip: The weather can change rapidly, with fog often rolling in and obscuring the views for short periods. Be patient, and you might be rewarded with dramatic, ethereal shots as the mist clears.
