What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Renegade Rum Distillery's innovative approach to rum-making, highlighting the unique 'terroir' concept that showcases Grenada's local sugarcane. The modern facility and knowledgeable guides enhance the experience, offering a fascinating contrast to traditional methods. While the tasting is a highlight, some find the tours can be quite detailed.
"Renegade Rum is doing something really special in Grenada. The state of the art facility is producing terroir based rum that is incredibly tasty and complex. Renegade is working with local farmers to revive sugarcane production on the island, and are now producing rums as studies of hyper local terroirs. They are even producing multiple rums from single farms' crops, and the tasting at the end of the tour invites guests to experience the ways sugarcane expresses itself in various growing conditions.
The tours are a new addition, but our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and very patient with us as we struggled to place all the new scents and flavors (notes of vanilla, banana, salty plum, grass, earth, minerals, various levels of oak in the aged products) we were happy to find in their many rums. You'll get to see everything from sugarcane intake and crushing, the fermentation room, distilling area with both copper pot still and column still, testing facility, and the barrel house with what is currently an unbelievable stash of rums awaiting distribution. The tasting room also has an excellent view, informative visuals, and air conditioning.
My suggestion is to go to River Antoine distillery and follow that with a trip just a short drive away to Renegade--the contrast is stark between the ancient and modern methods but well worth exploring."
