What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Beauport Pays de la Canne to be an interesting historical site, particularly appreciating the free permanent exhibition detailing the sugarcane industry. While some facilities like the train may have intermittent availability, the historical content and the renovated plantation house are consistently praised. The site holds significant potential for further development and cultural events.
"As of the month of December the museum is officially closed because of change of ownership. There is however a permanent exhibition that is open and free to visit. It was pretty well done, with explanation in both English and French. There are pictures, videos, interactive screens and some olfactory experiences. There are some details that need tweaking but overall it was really interesting. It looks like a big facility, so it would be interesting to go back when the train and other areas will be open again."

"It is true that you have to check the opening hours and I highly recommend to try and give a phone call and reach somebody to make sure that the place is open. Opening hours and opening days are indeed relatively random. And it is also true that there is no English speaking guide even though there are English descriptions. On the other hand, this is not a mass tourism Island nor a mass tourism place, and maybe it is a good thing that it is this way. I appreciate it.
Overall, this place is worth a visit. It tells a lot about the history of the Island through the development of sugar, slavery and modern forced, hard and underpaid labour as the result of colonialism. Under other things there is a mill, a renovated house and an exhibition.
There is also a playground for children, a scenic train (currently not working, status December 2024) and much else to see.
At the moment, entry is for free.
The place has infinitely more potential."

"I gave it 5 stars, firstly for the receptionist and the kindness of the guide. Secondly, the little ones loved the train! The permanent exhibition is very good. We learn about the history of sugar cane from its origins. We had a great time!
It would be nice if the shop could offer a few additional products, and why not a coffee to extend the visit?"
