What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking beauty of Khilanmarg, particularly the stunning views from the Gulmarg Gondola ride. The snowy landscapes in winter and the lush meadows in summer are highlights. However, some travelers caution about potential overcharging by local vendors and the need for careful negotiation.
"The Gulmarg Gondola Phase-I takes you to this location. The Gondola ride is quite awesome...worth the wait and toil. It takes about 8-10mins to reach the elevation. Some people do feel fatigued and loss-of-breath (so be cautious).
The time we visited, the whole area right from Gulmarg was covered in thick snow!! And the experience...snow covered mountains speckled with dark pines....was heavenly.
Temperature was quite low due to rains and snow.
The place has a decent cafe, a nicely built washroom with hot water provision, queuing area, selfie points, etc. Local people are busy selling kahwa, coffee, or offering rides in their sledges, snow scooters, ice skating kits, etc.
From here one has to board the Phase-II Gondola to Aharwat hill top."

"No doubt its a beautiful place. There are two phase, phase 1 and phase 2.
Although both are serene and photogenic place. However, I'll suggest going to phase 2 first. Phase 2 is around 12000 feet above the ground. We had booked the tickets online and I'll also suggest doing so.
You can rent the shoes and jacket if required depending on the weather condition on your day to visit.
In the season time that's winter you'll fell in love with this place. I visited in July and therefore there wasn't any ice.
One thing to note. The local people are there to fool tourist and fight with them.
It happened with us.
The traveller dropped us in parking and from there the kandhori gate was almost 1.5 km. We were 14 people and therefore we took a car cab for ₹100 per car. However, while returning back to parking we again hired a car cab. It was clearly told to us ₹100 per car. However, reaching to parking the car cab asked ₹100 per person. Can you imagine paying ₹1400 just for 1.5 km. There the car cab driver started arguing and said it was already told it's ₹100 per person rather than ₹100 per car. They even threaten the traveller driver. The tourism police was also taking local people side. Then we had to approach paramilitary person to resolve the issue. Therefore, I suggest everyone do not trust local people of gulmarg."

"A beautiful and scenic place up on the hills. The Gandola cable car ride for Phase 1 is stable and smooth while the view outside can be foggy or rainy depending on where the clouds are. We couldn't take the Phase 2 ride as the weather deteriorated and it kept on raining for a while.
The location is guarded heavily by security officers which is good. The picturesque hills and valleys offer great photo and selfie points. A few eatery points are available for refreshment. Please carry umbrella, water bottles and jackets."
