The sheer abundance of migratory birds and the unique Gei Wai ecosystem are consistently praised. However, some find the access restrictions and limited on-site facilities to be drawbacks.

Birds, fish mangroves and wetlands a nice combination."

"Maipo Nature Reserve is a good place to go if you are a bird lover. Black faced spoonbills are one of the very iconic endangered birds that could be found during winter. Highly recommended for those who would like to take great photos.
Please be reminded that, Maipo is a restricted area, you will need a permit to get in. Otherwise, you will be conceded as violating the law. You can join WWFHK tours if you are interested."
