What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Yuet Tung China Works is a highly recommended, unique destination for its authentic hand-painted porcelain and historic atmosphere. Visitors love the vast selection and the chance to see artisans at work. However, the packed, delicate displays require careful navigation, and the cash-only policy and potentially higher prices are points to note.
"Some of their stuff can be bought from taobao (china amazon) at a much cheaper price. So make sure to differentiate which are handmade by them and which are “imported”. One clue is to look at the bottom to see if have their YT chop in orange. And the more colourful the thing the more likely it’s imported. You can see they draw using simple colours. Those with gold and bright red and blue are more likely imported from China. I think my blue set is more likely to be hand painted but it’s just my guess only too. Hope this helps"

"Very cool place, bought more than I should've. The warehouse is very packed and everything is stacked precariously but it's cool. Employees are nice. No haggling unless something is chipped."

"Interesting place if you look for Chinese porcelain and ceramics. Finding the place is very tricky and to be honest the industrial building is a bit scary to walk around. The shop is very small with narrow corridors stuffed with piles of porcelain items which makes the browsing rather hazardous. I was scared to break something when moving around and one can have a real domino effect as things are laying in piles on one another. The payments are in cash only. Prices vary, however the shop is more expensive than I expected."

A Legacy of Porcelain
Visitors often describe the experience as stepping back in time. The sheer volume of porcelain, stacked precariously in narrow aisles, creates a unique and somewhat hazardous browsing environment. This packed nature, however, is also part of its charm, showcasing the extensive range of products available, from delicate teacups to elaborate decorative plates.
The artisans, often referred to as 'artist aunties,' continue to paint each piece by hand, using traditional techniques. This personal touch is what sets Yuet Tung apart. While some items might be imported and sold alongside their own creations, keen observers can often spot the difference by looking for the factory's signature orange 'YT' chop on the base of the porcelain.
Navigating the Porcelain Maze
It's crucial to move slowly and deliberately. The narrow corridors require careful navigation, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of goods. This environment makes it a treasure hunt for those who enjoy sifting through items to find unique pieces. Many visitors report buying more than they intended due to the captivating selection.
When it comes to purchasing, remember that Yuet Tung China Works operates on a cash-only basis. While haggling is generally not an option, it may be considered for items with visible chips or imperfections. Inspecting your chosen items thoroughly before purchase is highly recommended.
