Sixty pairs of iron shoes, representing those worn by victims in the 1940s, are placed along the riverbank, symbolizing the people who were forced to remove their footwear before being shot and their bodies cast into the icy waters of the Danube. Instagram+2

Visitors are encouraged to approach this site with solemnity and respect. It's a place for quiet reflection on the suffering endured by Hungarian Jews. The simplicity of the shoes against the backdrop of the grand Parliament building creates a powerful and unforgettable contrast. Many find it a deeply moving experience that adds a crucial historical dimension to their visit to Budapest. Instagram

While photography is permitted, it's essential to do so discreetly and without posing. The focus should remain on honoring the memory of the victims. The memorial is accessible at all times, allowing for contemplation at any point during your promenade visit. Instagram
