What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Vasarely Museum Budapest for its captivating optical art and the unique visual experience it offers. The museum is a must-visit for fans of Victor Vasarely and Op Art, though some find the collection can be explored relatively quickly.
"Settled permanently in the fairy-tale Zichy palace, the exhibition is vast and carries some really landmark Vasarely works. The H5 train connection makes it super easy to visit, even for people that don’t know the Budapest transport system. Given the importance of the works here, the authorities could maybe create more of a ‘buzz’ about the place: visitors’s reception centre, enlarged shop, for instance. But well worth getting on that H5 to Szentlélek."

"I have always loved the later works of Vasarely, and as a teacher of art history, I’ve always loved seeing my students decide they like abstract art after all once they have seen his works. It’s a wonder to them that he did these without the aid of computer software and that he’s messing with our perception.
Coming to the museum was an awesome experience because it helps the visitor trace his development over his long and productive artistic career. The ground floor houses works from his earlier years, including his figurative works, as well as his early experimentation with shifting perspectives. The upper floor is filled with his wonderful Op Art works — large scale, glowing with bold colors, and seeing to expand off the canvas into our space. The wall text is extremely helpful, and museum as a whole is terrific."

"Beautiful pictures!!
In particular the colored paintings were absolutely impressive.
It's a small museum, with few visitors. It feels very familiar.
The museum's shop is really cool too. I bought a bag there.
Definitely worth a visit!"
