What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Balf Spa offers a tranquil forest setting and a decent spa experience, particularly on weekdays. While rooms are spacious and clean, some guests have noted issues with amenities and inconsistent spa temperatures. Dining is a mixed bag, with praised cakes and buffets contrasting with criticisms of main dishes and breakfast coffee.
"The hotel is in a very quiet location, and you can reach the center of Sopron by bus in 20 minutes. It is surrounded by forest, which makes it very relaxing, including the spa area. During the week it is also accessible for non-hotel guests and not crowded; it gets busier on the weekends. We tried the food, fish, and cakes. The fish was okay, and the cakes were very good."

"It is an okay hotel, but by far not what I’d expect from a 4 star hotel.
Rooms are fine, nothing much to say. Spacious and clean.
The food was okay, but nothing amazing. While there was a little of everything, it lacked in flavour and often the options weren’t great. Having 5 different meat dishes and two different fries as a side option just seemed odd. The salad bar also had old vegetables, dried cucumbers and lettuce as well as pickles.
The coffee at breakfast was horrible. Straight up not drinkable.
For dinner we ordered a 1L lemonade to share, I emphasised three times that we’d like 1L and still we got a single 0,4 glass. When we asked to get the 1L, the 0,4 was taken back and we got a 1L lemonade, however 100% the 0,4 was just dumped into the 1L pitcher and water was added, it didn’t taste like lemonade, it tasted like straight up water… 2700ft water.
The Spa is nice, however the water temperatures are not true from what is advertised. On a Friday, the water of both pools was great and comfortable, Saturday one pool was freezing and the other was warm, but far from the day prior and comfortable to sit and relax. The Saunas also weren’t turned on until around 3pm Saturday. The Sauna that was supposed to be 90°C showed 40°C. Considering the weekend is more expensive, it’s crazy that they turn down the Spa’s temperature.
The service at the Bar upstairs and downstairs wasn’t the same either. While you’re served a coffee with water, sugar, and a cookie upstairs, for the same price downstairs you just get the coffee.
The hotel also has some programs during the day, however it is poorly advertised or just not done. While we were there, there was supposed to be food available from an outside oven during dinner hours… which didn’t happen. A “cheese tasting” was them just putting out the regular daily cheese plate.
All in all, it was a bit of a letdown."

"We’ve stayed at the hotel for 4 nights mostly to go for hiking or cycling to Austria. The food were nice and there is a small wellness department where you can relax. The problem was with the room itself. The air condition was not working properly, when you set the thermostat to any set, the AC did not take any action on it. Therefore the room did not cool down for a reasonable tempratere at the evening. The other problem was with the TV, it constantly turned off on a random period of time. I know it’s not a big deal, but after a full day activity it would be nice to watch a movie without interruption. Also it’s the 21st century it should be a streaming capable smart tv not just satellite😊. Also I don’t understand the parking fee which is €2,5 for a day. Why not they build in the price for hotel guests? It’s ridiculous. Otherwise the hotel is in a nice environment where you can relax. If they are going to fix these small annoying things the hotel would be a nice choice."
