Reviews Summary
Szeged Railway Station is praised for its stunning neo-Renaissance architecture and convenient tram connections to the city center. However, a significant drawback is the reported overnight closure, which can leave travelers stranded despite advertised 24/7 access.
"Szeged is a beautiful city with a rich history. Even at night, when everything is closed, and you are forced to admire it in the freezing cold because the train station, supposedly open 00:00–24:00, suddenly decided to take a break. I arrived at this station from Budapest at 00:50, and despite the supposed opening hours, I was greeted with the opportunity to enjoy the night air outside.
A beautiful building built in 1880 in the neo-Renaissance style, a clean hall, friendly ticket clerks—everything is great until you are kindly invited to "get some fresh air" at 1 AM. My next train was at 5 AM, and that’s when I discovered a new Hungarian pastime: overnight station survival. Luckily, it was only -1°C and not -10°C, or I might have made it into local history as "the frozen traveler."
Luckily, when you wander around the city with luggage at a brisk pace, freezing to death is almost impossible.
Movimentum vita est!
For fairness, I should note that the timetables on the doors of different sections of the station indicate different times - somewhere from 00:00 to 24:00, and somewhere from 02:50 to 23:30 but all of them are closed at night.
Still, it would be nice to let passengers stay inside overnight instead of testing their endurance on the street.
Dear station administration, if you write 00:00–24:00, let it actually mean 00:00–24:00, not "Well, we’ll see…"

"There are coin-operated luggage lockers on ground floor of the station (not basement as signposted) in the ticket office. Need 100 ft or 1 EUR coin and top small for a suitcase, but a big backpack did fit in."

"A really lovely train station that has been restored to its former glory. We arrived by train from Budapest and then took a tram into the centre of Szeged. The tram stop is outside the train station so the connection was ultra smooth and easy."
