What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Public Transport Museum Szentendre for its extensive collection of vintage trams, buses, and trains, with many vehicles accessible for exploration. The historical context of Budapest's public transport is well-presented, and it's a particularly engaging experience for children. However, some exhibits, especially outdoors, show signs of wear, and the museum's cash-only policy can be an inconvenience.
"A surprisingly large museum on the history of public transport in Budapest. The museum is divided into 3 areas: In the first area, you can get important information about the development of public transport in Budapest from information panels and many photos, in both English and Hungarian. In the second area, you will find many original vehicles. The vehicles are in great condition, and you can even board some of them. In the outdoor area, there are more vehicles, some of which are not in the best condition due to weather conditions.
The museum is within walking distance of the Szentendre train station (about a 5-minute walk).
Please note: The museum only accepts cash (Forint)!"

"Very large museum with a variety of trains. Display boards had all information translated to English too for any tourists. Very empty at the time of visiting with only 2 or 3 other groups of people present.
Along with the trains was a large amount of history of transport in Hungary and a collection of buses.
It is sad to see many of the trains rusting with failing paint but if the money is not there, the museum is not to blame."

"Very interesting place. It explains the history of public transportation in Hungary, mainly in the Budapest area. There are old vehicles in display. If you are interested in history, vehicles and engineering, it is definitely a place to visit."
