Did you know that there are some islands on Earth that are younger than 100 years old? Surtsey Island, located off the southern coast of Iceland, is one such island, as it is only 62 years old. Formed by a volcanic eruption in 1963, Surtsey Island appeared virtually overnight, but it's disappearing almost as quickly. Due to wave erosion, it may be gone as soon as 2100, making its lifespan les...

Reviews Summary

Surtsey Island is a unique geological marvel, celebrated for its scientific importance as a protected natural laboratory where life is studied as it colonizes new volcanic land. While direct public access is impossible, its story is fascinating, and it can be appreciated from afar. Some reviews humorously misinterpret its nature, highlighting the need for clear information about its restricted status.

"Whilst skydiving I was meant to land on a ship on a deep undercover ops mission and accidentally landed on this island it was in the dead of night my compass had some interference and I got the drop zone mixed up was a bad electrical storm. Cut a long story short bunkered down, waited till the storm pass In the morning, and wondered over the ridge to find a night owl. The attended Maximus Gunta Albummaximiums was really helpful he let me use the phone to call my Mom and let her know that I was ok. Got my brother in law to pick me up in the chopper. Island itself is nice just had a bad ordeal getting there but I would recommend anyone to visit. I was just short on time. Want to give a big shout out to Maxi for looking after me thanks buddy!!"

"The Lava is nice to swim in, very relaxing!
However, the native people are not very nice. They have a very 'volcanic' personality, and always complain that the tourists are 'eroding' them."

Rayyan khan

"No one is allowed on this island so I’m not sure why someone would say “the mall is great”. This is the newest uninhabited Icelandic island created from underwater volcanos and is being preserved from human interference for scientific research. You can see it from the coast of the main Westman islands. Amazing."
