"Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi was born in Shiraz, Iran (1302AD). His father's name was Hazrat Khwaja Hussain Bin Mahmood Shirazi. The ancestry of his lineage traces its origin from the great martyrdom of Karbala "Hazrat Imam Hussain".
Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi was 7 years old when his mother died and his father took full responsibility of him. He went for the first time to the pilgrimage of Makkah and Madinah with his father and stayed there for few years. After that, he finally decided to proceed towards India. In 1327 AD, he reached Daulatabad and met his future spiritual mentor Hazrat Burhanuddin Ghareeb. This was the time period when Sultan Muhammad Bin Tughlaq (1325-51AD) transferred the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad, due to which Hazrat Burhanuddin Ghareeb also migrated to Daulatabad from Delhi. Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi learned the knowledge of spirituality and mysticism in Sufism under him for about 10 years and finally, in 1337AD, Hazrat Burhanuddin Ghareeb conferred him the khilafat in Chishti Nizami order of Sufism. After the death of his Shaikh, Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi took control of the khanqah and he was appointed as the Qazi of Daulatabad. Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq, Sultan Mahmood Bahmani, Sultan Malik Raja Farooqi, and his son Prince Nasiruddin Nasir Khan used to give a lot of respect to the saint. In the memory of the saint, Sultan Nasiruddin Nasir Khan established two cities near the banks of the Tapti river named Burhanabad and Zainabad.
Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi's malfuzaats are collected in Hidaayatul Quloob, Daleel ul Saalikeen, Habbatul Quloob min Maqaamil Mahboob, and Habbatul Mahabbat. Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi left this temporary abode on 25 Rabi-ul-Awwal 771 Hijri (according to the Islamic calendar) in 1369 AD. He lies buried in Khuldabad, Maharashtra. In the dargah premises of the saint lies the grave of sixth Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb (1658-1707 AD) and his son Azam Shah and his wife (Aurangzeb's daughter-in-law)."

The Spiritual Legacy of Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi

Hazrat Khwaja Zainuddin Shirazi, also known as 'Baees Khwaja' (the 22nd Khwaja), was a highly revered Sufi saint of the Chishtiya order. Born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1302 AD, his lineage traces back to Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. He journeyed to India and became a disciple of Hazrat Burhanuddin Ghareeb in Daulatabad. After years of spiritual training, he received his khilafat (spiritual succession) in 1337 AD. He later settled in Khuldabad, where his dargah is now a significant pilgrimage site. InstagramReddit

His teachings emphasized love, compassion, and service to humanity. His malfuzat (recorded sayings) are compiled in several books, including 'Hidaayatul Quloob' and 'Daleel ul Saalikeen', offering guidance on spiritual journeys. Aurangzeb's Humble Resting Place

One of the most striking aspects of the Zainuddin Shirazi Dargah complex is the tomb of the sixth Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb Alamgir. Contrary to the grandeur often associated with Mughal rulers, Aurangzeb's tomb is remarkably simple, reflecting his personal austerity and wish to be buried next to his spiritual mentor. Reddit

Aurangzeb, known for his piety and strict adherence to Islamic principles, reportedly earned money for his burial by transcribing copies of the Quran and stitching caps. This earned money was used to pay for his tomb. The simple stone slab that marks his grave was later enhanced with marble by Lord Curzon, but the essence of his humble request remains. Reddit

His son, Azam Shah, and his wife are also buried within the vicinity, adding to the historical significance of the site. The presence of the emperor's tomb here underscores the deep respect he held for Sufi saints and the spiritual importance of Khuldabad. Reddit
