"My love for places away from the usual tourist trail led me to this quaint monastery in Darjeeling. On a lazy morning, my friend and I decided to walk down to it. From the Mall, take the road going downhill towards Bhutia Busty, and after a leisurely 25–30 minute walk, you’ll arrive at this peaceful spot. The walk is quite steep, so it’s good to be prepared for that.
The monastery itself is a beautiful example of Tibetan Buddhist architecture, with intricate details and ornate paintings that immediately catch the eye. We spent nearly an hour here, soaking in the serene atmosphere. A cheerful little kid who lives at the monastery showed us around, and a monk kindly offered us prashad and encouraged us to sit quietly inside and admire the surroundings.
The walk back up to town can be tiring. Bike taxis are available, but not very frequent. An alternative — which we opted for — is to continue walking another 30 minutes downhill to Lebong. This stretch is very steep but rewarding, as it takes you through a stunning forest path that feels truly enchanting. From Lebong, you can easily catch a shared taxi back to Darjeeling."
