What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bambleshwari Temple is a highly revered spiritual site in Chhattisgarh, praised for its divine atmosphere and panoramic hilltop views. Visitors appreciate the option of both a challenging stair climb and a scenic ropeway, as well as the daily free community meal. While the spiritual experience is profound, potential visitors should be aware of crowds during peak times and the need to manage belongings due to monkeys.
"Maa Bamleshwari Devi Temple is one of the most prominent and divine temples in Chhattisgarh. It’s located around 1 km from the railway station, making it easily accessible. For those traveling by private vehicle, there’s ample parking space available.
I would strongly recommend elderly devotees to avoid climbing the steps and instead opt for the ropeway. However, do note that on weekends, there’s usually a heavy rush at the ropeway counter, so plan your visit accordingly.
Although it’s said there are about 1,000 steps, in reality, it feels more like 2,000–3,000 steps, especially with the steep climb and curves along the way. But once you reach the top and have Maa’s darshan, all the tiredness simply fades away — it’s a truly spiritual and energizing experience.
There’s also a free Thali Bhandara organized daily from 12 PM to 3 PM, which everyone must experience — it’s simple, satisfying, and served with devotion. You can also donate to the temple charity, and you’ll find plenty of drinking water points and stalls along the way, making the climb manageable.
Overall, it’s a powerful and sacred place that leaves you feeling blessed and peaceful. A must-visit temple in Chhattisgarh."

"Beware of monkeys. Don’t take any kind of polythenes. They won’t take shoulder bags from you. Peaceful place. Much recommended. Do take stairs instead of ropeway you will enjoy the journey. Temple closes at 1:30pm and reopens at 2:30pm. Ropeway was not working. For people travelling from any other city try to get back to station before 5 as the train comes at 5:14pm for travelling towards raipur and then another one comes at 7pm. That 7pm memu was late when i travelled which came at 8:44pm on 3rd august 2025 hence i reached very late back home. Try to go early morning and come back early. Most peaceful and energetic place ♥️♥️ after reaching 991 stairs when you will see that divine face of maa every stress and problems from your life will vanish at the same moment.. i recommend choosing stairs instead of ropeway. My mother is 62yrs old and she climbed all 991 stairs in just 1hrs 30minutes.. thank ful to maa for giving her so much strength..🌸🌸♥️🙏🏻 JAI BAMLESHWARI MAA 🙏🏻♥️🌸🌸 may maa heal every person reading this.. 🙏🏻♥️"

The Spiritual Ascent: Stairs vs. Ropeway
For those who find the climb challenging, or for elderly visitors and families with young children, the ropeway offers a comfortable and scenic alternative. The cable car glides smoothly up the hillside, providing breathtaking panoramic views of Dongargarh town and the surrounding verdant landscape. While it offers convenience and stunning vistas, it's important to note that the ropeway can experience significant queues, especially on weekends and during peak festival times like Navratri. Visitors are advised to factor in potential waiting times if they opt for this mode of transport.
Navratri and Festivals at Bambleshwari Temple
Beyond Navratri, the temple is a year-round pilgrimage site. However, visiting during these major festivals offers a unique cultural and spiritual immersion. It's a time when the community comes together in devotion, creating an unforgettable experience for visitors. If you plan to visit during Navratri, be prepared for large crowds and plan your accommodation and travel well in advance. The energy and devotion displayed during this time are truly remarkable and a testament to the temple's importance.
Beyond the Main Shrine: Chhoti Bamleshwari
The Chhoti Bamleshwari temple offers a different, perhaps more intimate, spiritual experience compared to its grander counterpart on the hill. It's a peaceful spot that complements the journey to the main shrine, providing another opportunity for prayer and reflection. Visiting both temples allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the devotion associated with Maa Bamleshwari in Dongargarh.
