If talk about Haridwar everyone tells immediately about Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temple but very few knows about this temple, which is third peeth of three Siddh Peeths of Haridwar. This temple is located in a more residential area and market near Birla Ghat.
The ancient Maya Devi temple was established in the eleventh century along with The Narayana Shila temple and The Bhairav temple.
Interesting facts about Maya Devi temple:
1. In the main shrine of the temple one can see Maya Devi in the middle, Kali on the left and Kamakhya on the right as per mythology. It is said the heart and navel of Goddess Sati fell at this place. She is considered as the Adhishtadri mean Guardian deity of Haridwar.
2. Pradakshina path around the sanctum sanatorium of the Maya Devi temple has illustrations of the Dasha Mahavidyas which makes it highly importance in follower of Shaktism.
