"Manikya Dhara Falls, nestled near the sacred Baba Budangiri hills in Chikmagalur, is more than just a waterfall; it's a place steeped in both natural beauty and spiritual significance. Its name, meaning "string of pearls," aptly describes the way the water glistens as it cascades down the rocky terrain, especially when kissed by sunlight.

Legend connects these falls to the revered Sufi saint Baba Budan. During a severe drought, his prayers are said to have miraculously brought forth this perennial stream of water, which continues to flow year-round, a rarity in this region. This mystical origin makes it a pilgrimage site for both Muslims and Hindus, who believe in the water's sacred and even healing properties. Locally, it's also known as Nellikayi Theertham.

Reaching the falls involves a descent down a well-maintained set of steps, offering picturesque views of the surrounding lush greenery and the valley below. The atmosphere is tranquil and refreshing, a welcome escape from the everyday hustle. While the falls themselves aren't towering, their unique charm lies in the way the water breaks into numerous glistening droplets.

Many visitors take a dip in the cool waters, believing in their curative powers. A local custom involves pilgrims leaving behind a piece of clothing after bathing, symbolizing the shedding of ailments or the fulfillment of wishes. The area around the falls also has small shops selling local snacks and herbal medicines.

For nature enthusiasts, the falls serve as a starting point for treks into the Baba Budangiri range. The surrounding forests are rich in biodiversity, offering opportunities for bird watching and enjoying the serene natural environment. While the road to the falls can be a bit rough, the experience of witnessing this "string of pearls" and its spiritual aura makes it a worthwhile visit in Chikmagalur."

"On 19th April , due to construction work we were unable to reach mullayanagiri peak . Manikyadhara falls is close to the Mullayanagiri and the base parking point offers great views.
At the parking area the jeep drivers convinced us to leave our vehicle and take a jeep as the roads were supposedly bad with sharp bends.
They charged 200 per person. However on the way we felt the jeep ride was unnecessary. The road was paved and ok to drive on. There were sharp bends but most mountains do have sharp bends .
The jeep took us to the parking lot and the driver gave us a string of instructions about the view points and the 160 steps to be climbed down.
We got tickets being sold by an individual ( probably 20 bucks or so )
The waterfall was just water trickling down in a thin stream as you can see in the picture with people taking bath at the foot of the fall.
On the way up the parking lot, could see garbage littered on the hillside. People were also cooking .
In the parking lot we had to wait a long time for the jeep to arrive since they make continuous trips.
My take: at least in summer the waterfall not worth visiting
If you do visit you can easily take your own vehicle"

Manikya Dhara Falls, a charming cascade where water tumbles about 30 feet, offers an incredibly refreshing respite – the water remains delightfully cool even during peak summer. It's clearly a favorite spot for many seeking a natural shower at its base.
On our visit, the flow was more of a gentle trickle, as captured in the accompanying image, with people enjoying the cool embrace of the water. However, the path leading up to the parking area revealed some unfortunate human imprints, with litter marring the hillside. The final descent to the falls via steps can be treacherous, as algae renders them quite slippery, so careful footing is essential. A word of caution: the local monkey population is quite adept at snatching food, so keep your snacks secured! We also encountered an individual selling tickets for ₹5 per person, which felt a bit unofficial.
While the natural allure of Manikya Dhara is undeniable, a bit more attention to cleanliness and visitor safety would elevate the experience significantly. Despite these minor points, the sheer coolness of the water provides a memorable contrast to the heat, making it worth considering for a quick, invigorating stop."
