What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mayani Bird Sanctuary is praised for its tranquil natural beauty and potential as a bird-watching paradise, especially during migratory seasons. However, many reviews highlight a concerning lack of maintenance and upkeep, leading to a sense of neglect despite its inherent charm and ecological importance.
"The sheer calming surrounding is a myth these days, yet this place exits..
If you are looking for peace for a while and without disturbing nature & birds there, then it is best place to visit from Nov to Feb."

"A beautiful bird sanctuary left in ruins. It's sad to see a potential bird sanctuary just left on its own. No care taken. No maintenance done. There is a beautiful lake inside the sanctuary, so much scope for birds but sadly not a single water bird was there. There are two nice walking trails but with such huge grass. There is also a play area and sitting area but everything is covered in dry grass.
The sanctuary is beautiful and has potential but it is just left on its own to go in ruins."

Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts flock to witness species like flamingos, various types of ducks, waders, and resident birds such as egrets and herons. The sheer variety of birds makes it a significant location for biodiversity conservation in the region.
However, recent observations suggest a decline in maintenance and care, leading to concerns about the sanctuary's future. Despite its potential, the lack of upkeep has impacted its pristine beauty and the abundance of certain species. Efforts towards conservation and restoration are crucial to preserve this natural haven.
The Bird Watching Experience
Visitors can expect to see a wide array of species. Flamingos, with their distinctive pink plumage, are a major attraction, often seen wading gracefully in the shallow waters. Other common sightings include various species of ducks, egrets, herons, and other water birds. The peaceful and natural environment allows for an immersive experience, with the sounds of chirping birds filling the air.
While the sanctuary offers walking trails, it's important to tread lightly and respect the birds' space. Binoculars can greatly enhance the viewing experience, allowing you to observe birds from a distance without disturbing them. The sanctuary's tranquil atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for quiet contemplation and appreciating nature's wonders.
Conservation and Community
Community involvement and awareness are key to the sanctuary's long-term sustainability. While the sanctuary offers a unique experience, there are concerns about its current state of upkeep. Visitors are encouraged to be mindful of their impact and to support conservation initiatives. The emphasis on 'Birds first, humans after' highlights a responsible approach to ecotourism.
Educational value is also a significant aspect, providing opportunities to learn about different bird species, their behaviors, and their ecological importance. This makes it a valuable destination for school trips and anyone interested in understanding the natural world better.
