"We went as part of the heritage walk in Kottapuram fort jointly organised by Muziris Heritage project, KTIL, INTACH and IIA Kerala Chapter. This is a place which should be visited by every Keralite, This is a place of our roots and history and how trade was part of our culture.

The access to the place is through a boat jetty, there are services connected from Kottapuram to the fort. The guides give us a good insight on the history and the remanants found from the place.

The amazing view from the fort, where Portuguese and Dutch used to control the trade. And it was part of both Thiru Kochi"

In wish the roads to get there from Kochi were a bit more accessible."

"Visited Kottappuram Fort (Kotta) recently on an all-ladies office trip, and it was a refreshing experience! The fort is just 2–3 km from Kottappuram Junction, so it’s much more convenient if you go by your own vehicle, though you can hire an auto if needed. Entry tickets were just ₹10 per person—totally worth it.

The place felt very safe and peaceful, perfect for a relaxed outing. The highlight was definitely the stunning river view—it’s calming and scenic, a great spot to unwind and click pictures.

Historically, Kottappuram Fort (also known as Cranganore Fort) was built by the Portuguese in 1523 and later captured and modified by the Dutch. It played a major role in controlling access to the Periyar River and was once part of the old Muziris port region—one of the oldest trade centers in India.

A great blend of history and nature—highly recommend for a short, serene getaway!"
