What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Vidhan Bhavan Uttar Pradesh is widely praised for its stunning Gothic architecture and historical significance, particularly its impressive dome and intricate sandstone carvings. Visitors often highlight the magical ambiance created by its evening illumination and recommend it as a prime spot for photography. While interior access is limited, the exterior alone is considered a must-see landmark in Lucknow, symbolizing the state's democratic heart and architectural heritage.
"Seat of power and legislation, the imposing building of UP Vidhan Sabha is an old edifice constructed during the English period; the groundbreaking ceremony was performed in 1922 by Sir Harcourt Butler. The building cost about Rs 18.00 lakh at that time and was completed in 1928.
The imposing dome of the grand building, constructed in the Gothic style, consists of sandstone and is intricately carved. It has a cupola at the top and a grand hall with flanking gracefully curvaceous staircases, beneath the massive dome.
The whole precinct has two crescent-shaped wings stretched out from the dome that lies in the middle of the building. A monogram of the State of Uttar Pradesh with the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, two fishes and a bow with an arrow embellishes the building.
The two houses of the Legislative Assembly, Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad, are housed in this building where sittings of both houses take place when in session.
A road now known as BR Ambedkar Road runs in front of it. Previously the road was known as Vidhan Sabha Marg. A tall statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh has been installed in the premises in front of the main arched gate of the edifice. The statue compliments the structure of Vidhan Bhawan.
Across the road, a newly constructed Lok Bhawan has been constructed. The architecture of the new building is also in perfect harmony with the old building.
Being in the state capital, the iconic building is the pride of Lucknow."

This architectural marvel has been witness to the shaping of the state's destiny, echoing the voices of leaders and lawmakers who have left an indelible mark on Uttar Pradesh's narrative.
As the epicenter of political discourse, the Vidhan Sabha has played a pivotal role in framing laws and policies that have shaped the socio-economic landscape of the state.
