What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Sindhudurg Fort for its historical significance, impressive architecture, and stunning sea views, calling it a testament to Maratha naval strength. While the 45-minute boat tour limit can feel rushed, the unique Shivaji Maharaj Temple and the fort's robust construction make it a worthwhile visit for history enthusiasts and sightseers alike.
"We visited Sindhudurg Fort, and it was one of the most memorable experiences of our Malvan trip.
There is paid parking near the jetty for ₹30/-. The entrance of the jetty is very impressive, You’ll see warriors standing with their weapons, and Marathi patriotic songs playing in the background.
The boat ride costs ₹100 for adults and ₹50 for children (round trip). They only take cash, so make sure you carry cash. We got seats in just a few minutes. It’s a fun 10-15 minute ride, and life jackets are provided. You get around 1 hour to explore the fort, but even if you take longer, you can return in any other boat without paying extra.
The moment you enter, Sindhudurg Fort looks breathtaking. It really makes you think about how such a huge sea fort was built centuries ago, yet it still stands so strong. The preserved handprint and footprint of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj add a very special, emotional touch.
There is also a small museum with a ₹10 entry fee where they have kept old swords, clothes, weapons, coins, and other historical items. Inside the fort, you’ll find the temple of Goddess Bhavani, watchtowers, three wells, and multiple viewpoints that offer beautiful views of the sea.
Guides are available if you want to understand the history in detail.
You will also find small food stalls inside selling kokum juice, lemon water, chips, cold drinks, ice cream, chocolates etc.
Overall, Sindhudurg Fort is not just a place to visit, it is a place to feel.
It represents the courage, wisdom, and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and it’s an experience you definitely should not miss when visiting Malvan."

"The fort offers an insight into the historical and naval significance during Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj era, which is fascinating. A small community that ensured that they kept a vigil on any enemy sighting is truly remarkable and says a lot about the engineering insights that Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj possessed.
A must visit to understand the significance of the fort during the Maratha Empire."

"Sindhudurg Fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to secure from attacks thru sea. It is a wonder on the sea.
To visit the fort, it needs travelling in boat. Boats are plenty. It takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hrs to see the fort from inside. Very good guides are available on main fort gate. They give complete info with related history. Apart from huge construction, Shri Shivaji Maharaj temple, his foot print & hand print on the rocks, water supply arrangements, buruj (protection wall), etc are the attractions.
There are food joints, clean toilets, sign boards etc inside.
Newly installed idol of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is there in the sea water nearby.
Outside, there is big parking area. One has to buy ferry boat ticket and then go. Normally there is heavy rush here. We were fortunate to experience calm and quiet surroundings."
