Srinivas Kamath C.
"One of Mangalore's oldest and most prominent churches, Milagres has a very long history - the church was first built in the 16th century, when the Portuguese first established themselves in Mangalore. Over the centuries since, the church building was destroyed and later rebuilt several times. The current church building, a striking grey-and-white structure, dates back to 1911, though marble plaques inside, embedded into the beautiful tiled floor of the church, commemorate people from much older times, including Rt Rev Thomas de Castro (1674-1684), the founder of Milagres Church.
The church has some pleasing old statuary and art (the customary twelve stations of the cross painted along the sides, for instance), and is a lovely, serene place to visit even on weekdays."
