The fort is surrounded by heaps of garbage and plastic waste, which not only spoil the beauty but also harm the environment.

"Kans Quila, also known as the Fort of Kans, is an ancient and historically significant monument located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. This majestic fort is believed to have been built by the tyrant King Kans, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna, who ruled Mathura with cruelty and fear. Deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, Kans Quila stands as a silent witness to the stories of Lord Krishna’s birth, his early life, and the ultimate downfall of his evil uncle. The fort, although in a semi-ruined state today, continues to attract visitors for its historical grandeur and mythological importance. Architecturally, Kans Quila is a magnificent blend of Hindu and Mughal styles, showcasing large arched gateways, massive walls, and intricately designed chambers. It is said that the fort underwent several reconstructions over the centuries, particularly during the Mughal and British periods, when it served as both a defensive structure and a strategic post due to its location near the river. The fort’s design reflects a sense of strength and dominance, with thick bastions and watchtowers that once guarded the city of Mathura. Kans Quila also features underground chambers and passageways that add to its mysterious aura, suggesting that it might have been used as a shelter or escape route during battles. The site holds immense cultural and spiritual significance as it forms an essential part of the Mathura heritage circuit, often visited along with the Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, Dwarkadhish Temple, and Vishram Ghat. According to local legends, this fort was the residence of Kans, where he plotted against Krishna and his parents, Devaki and Vasudeva. It is believed that within these walls, Kans awaited the prophecy of his death at the hands of Krishna to come true. Over time, Kans Quila has become a powerful symbol of the triumph of good over evil, embodying the eternal message of righteousness that pervades Hindu philosophy. Despite centuries of neglect and weathering, the fort still exudes an aura of grandeur and mystery, drawing historians, devotees, and tourists alike. From its ramparts, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Yamuna River and the bustling town of Mathura, which together create an atmosphere of timeless serenity. The Archaeological Survey of India now protects Kans Quila, and efforts are being made to preserve its remaining structures and historical value. Visiting Kans Quila offers not just a glimpse into the glorious and turbulent past of Mathura but also a deep spiritual connection to the legends of Lord Krishna. It stands today not merely as a monument of stone and brick but as a living testament to India’s mythological heritage and the enduring power of faith and history intertwined."
