"Very powerful temple. Lots of local crowd as it was a public holiday. Free darshan was crowded. They had a Rs. 400 special queue which was reasonable. Darshan happened within 20 minutes. Speciality was milk payasam which was served to all devotees. Special darshan ticket holders were given the payasam in a steel container along with a coconut and bananas. It was a surprise though."

The Legend and History of Nagaraja Temple
The temple's architecture is a fascinating blend of Kerala and Tamil Nadu styles. The main sanctum sanctorum for Nagaraja is unique, lacking a traditional vimana and instead featuring a thatched roof. The maha mandapam's pillars are adorned with bas-reliefs of Hindu deities like Murugan and Vinayagar, as well as Jain figures such as Mahavir and Parsvanatha Tirthankara. The Ananda Krishnar temple, located on the south side, features a vimana covered in gold-plated plates, depicting Lord Krishna with his consorts and a distinctive snake hood above his head.
Rituals and Spiritual Significance
The temple's association with serpent deities is profound. Legend has it that Lord Parasurama invoked Nagaraja to sanctify the land, leading to the temple's establishment. The Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple, a prominent serpent shrine, is patronized by a Brahmin family, and its first priestess is said to have given birth to a five-headed snake, highlighting the deep connection between the temple and serpent mythology. Visitors often report a sense of calmness and positivity upon entering, making it a place for spiritual solace and divine connection.
Architectural Marvels and Iconography
Adjacent to the main shrine is the Ananda Krishnar Temple, characterized by its two-tiered vimana adorned with stucco images of Lord Krishna and his consorts. A unique feature here is the snake hood depicted above Krishna's head, symbolizing the divine connection. The Shiva Temple, built in the Kerala style with an open mukha mandapam, adds to the spiritual diversity within the complex. The presence of various deities like Krishnar, Nagars, Bala Murugan, and Durga in the praharam further enriches the temple's iconography.
