Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Nagpur Central Museum for its rich collection, especially the legendary Waghnakh and the engaging Natural History section. The incredibly low entry fee and peaceful ambiance are major draws. While some exhibits could benefit from better lighting or maintenance, it's considered a hidden gem and a worthwhile visit for history and culture enthusiasts.

"Great place to learn about Nagpur’s history!

I visited the museum on a weekend and was surprised by how much there is to see. It has everything—from dinosaur bones and fossils to old weapons, coins, and tribal art. The building itself is beautiful and peaceful, with big halls and open lawns.

The best part was the Natural History section where they show real fossils and stuffed animals. They also have QR codes near each exhibit to explain things, which is really helpful.

Some parts need better lighting and a few screens weren’t working, but overall it’s clean and well-managed. Entry fee is just ₹10, totally worth it. Great place for students, families, or anyone interested in our culture."

"Really pleasant experience. The atmosphere inside the museum is very calm and peaceful. They also allow to take pictures with phone but without flash. However, The gallery was closed for some reason but overall a must visit place for History enthusiasts."

jivesh Warwade

"The Central Museum in Nagpur is a hidden gem for history enthusiasts and cultural explorers. Rich with heritage and meticulously curated exhibits, this museum offers a fascinating glimpse into India’s ancient past.

One of the most captivating aspects of the museum is its remarkable collection of sculptures and shilalekhs (inscriptions). These stone inscriptions date back as far as the 10th century, with others from the 12th, 13th, and 16th centuries. They are written in Devanagari script, Sanskrit, and several local languages, reflecting the diverse linguistic and cultural history of the region.

The main attraction, however, is nothing short of legendary—the Waghnakh (वाघनख), the iconic weapon used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to eliminate the Mughal general Afzal Khan. This historical artifact, originally housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, is now proudly displayed here, making it a powerful symbol of Maratha valor and strategy.

The entry fee is just ₹10 per person, making it accessible to all. Though a part of the museum is currently under renovation, and some sections are temporarily closed, the available exhibits are still enough to make your visit worthwhile.
The water filter is available, free drinking water available and washroom also available which is neat and clean."
