Reviews Summary

Someshwar Waterfall is praised for its mesmerizing, albeit not towering, water flow, especially during monsoon, offering serene views and a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors enjoy the affordable local snacks and the potential for rainbow mist. However, concerns about cleanliness and slippery conditions are frequently mentioned, with some finding it less grand than expected.

"It was a visual treat to witness the roaring water flowing through this waterfall . It was mesmerising as well as quite terrible at the same time. Because of heavy rains since 2 days, very large quantity of water is released from dam and u can see the view in picture attached . Cleanliness could be better. People shouldn't throw plastics ,wrappers near river."

"Place offers serene views with loud yet soothing sound of the Godavari flowing down the rock cascade. It’s not a high waterfall but a loudy and voluminous for sure. There is a picture point made out of railing to ensure safety.
If the sun is out and the wind is blowing you will see a Rainbow being made from the mist of the falls.
There is a tea/ Maggi shop just at the view point. Also don’t forget to try the corn, so sweet and as cheap as Rs 10/-
Must visit place specially in and around monsoons and while visiting Trimbakeshwar Ji temple."

"Visited Someshwar Waterfall recently, and to be honest, it wasn’t as big as I had expected. The water flow was decent and a bit loud, but I wouldn’t call it a grand waterfall. It felt more like a small stream flowing over the rocks.

The place was crowded, and police were present to ensure people stayed safe and didn’t get too close, which I appreciated. However, one thing that really stood out was the cleanliness issue. There was a lot of plastic and leftover food items around the riverbed, which took away from the natural beauty. Since there’s paid parking, I feel there should be better management and some effort to keep the area clean.

Overall, it’s okay for a quick stop if you’re nearby, but don’t expect a huge waterfall experience."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Power of the Godavari

Someshwar Waterfall is unique as it's formed by the Godavari River, one of the longest rivers in India. While not a towering waterfall, its strength lies in its voluminous flow, especially during the monsoon months. The water cascades over a series of rock formations, creating a dynamic and often loud spectacle. Visitors often describe the sound as both powerful and soothing, contributing to the serene atmosphere. InstagramReddit

During periods of heavy rainfall, a significant amount of water is released from the nearby Gangapur Dam, which can dramatically increase the waterfall's intensity. This makes the monsoon season the most visually striking time to visit, transforming the gentle cascade into a roaring torrent. However, this also means increased caution is necessary due to the powerful currents and slippery conditions. InstagramReddit

The surrounding area is also significant, with the Someshwar Temple nearby, adding a spiritual dimension to the natural beauty. This combination of natural wonder and religious significance makes it a popular spot for both tourists and locals seeking peace and scenic views. Instagram

Photography Tips for Someshwar Waterfall

Someshwar Waterfall offers several photographic opportunities, from the dramatic water flow to the potential for rainbows. The main viewpoint provides a clear, unobstructed view of the cascade, ideal for capturing the sheer volume of water. On days with sunshine and a good breeze, the mist generated by the falls can create a beautiful rainbow, a sought-after shot for many photographers. InstagramReddit

When photographing the waterfall, consider using a wide-angle lens to encompass the entire scene. A tripod is highly recommended, especially if you want to achieve a smooth water effect with longer exposures. Be mindful of the spray from the waterfall, and consider using a lens hood or a protective filter. The rocks around the waterfall can be very slippery, so prioritize safety over a risky shot. Reddit

For capturing the vibrant colors of the surroundings or the potential rainbow, a polarizing filter can be very effective. The best light for photography is often during the golden hours – early morning or late afternoon – when the light is softer and more diffused. However, the raw power of the waterfall during monsoon is a spectacle in itself, making any time a good time to capture its essence. Instagram

Navigating Crowds and Cleanliness

Someshwar Waterfall is a popular destination, and as such, it can get quite crowded, especially during weekends and the peak monsoon season. Many visitors come to witness the powerful water flow and enjoy the natural scenery. To experience a more peaceful visit, it's advisable to plan your trip for weekdays. Reddit

Cleanliness is an area where visitors have noted room for improvement. Reports mention the presence of plastic litter and leftover food items around the riverbed, which detracts from the natural beauty. While there is paid parking, some feel that better waste management and regular cleaning efforts are needed to maintain the pristine condition of the area. Reddit

To help preserve the beauty of Someshwar Waterfall, visitors are encouraged to practice responsible tourism. This includes disposing of all waste properly in designated bins and avoiding littering. By being mindful of our impact, we can ensure that this natural gem remains enjoyable for everyone. Reddit
