"This temple is called kadai maruthur.
Head Thalai maruthur is Sri sailam. Idai maruthur Thiruvidai maruthur.

"Presiding deity Lord Naarumpoonatha Swamy is beautiful and seen in a tilted position. This temple is on the banks of rivers Thamirabarani and the confluence of Kadana.
As per the legend, the Munis and Devas requested a need for a Shiva Temple equivalent to Kasi. Shiva threw the Thandam on the place where the Thamirabarani joins with the river. The Thandam travelled against the flow of the river and reached here. This temple is considered equivalent to Kasi and hence called as Dakshina Kasi.
There are 3 temples having Marutham tree as Sthala Vriksham. One is here (called as Pudarjunam). The other 2 are in Srisailam (Mallikarjunam) and in Thiruvidaimaruthur (Madhyarjunam).
Goddess Gomathi Amman is housed separately.
A must visit temple. DOV Dec 2018."

The Legend of Dakshina Kasi
The temple's unique identity is further cemented by its association with the Marutham tree, considered the 'Sthala Vriksham' (sacred tree). Thirupudaimaruthur is known as 'Pudarjunam' in this context, alongside Srisailam ('Mallikarjunam') and Thiruvidaimaruthur ('Madhyarjunam'). Beyond the main sanctum, the temple complex includes a separate shrine for Goddess Gomathi Amman, a beloved deity. The location itself is a significant feature, situated on the banks of the Thamirabarani River at its confluence with the Kadana River. This picturesque setting adds to the temple's serene and spiritual ambiance, making it not just a place of worship but also a spot of natural beauty. The approach to the temple, often through scenic paddy fields, further enhances the pilgrimage experience.
